Carpets
- What’s the difference between ChemDry and other carpet cleaning methods?
ChemDry cleans carpets in an entirely different way to all other methods. ChemDry’s patented system uses a unique, hot-carbonating process and a naturally based cleaning solution that is safe and non-toxic. The system employs a combination of heat and carbonation to help break down dirt deeply embedded in carpet or upholstery fibres. Millions of tiny effervescent bubbles lift the dirt to the surface, allowing it to be easily cleaned away rather than becoming further embedded into the fibre. The gentle process does not harm carpet fibre or fabrics and there is no risk of shrinkage.
By using a fraction of the water required with alternative cleaning methods, no excess water is left behind in which mould or bacteria can thrive. Carpets dry in 1-2 hours … not days as with some carpet cleaning methods. And because ChemDry uses ‘The Natural®’ instead of detergents or shampoos, there are no sticky dirt-attracting residues left behind following a clean, so carpets stay cleaner for longer.
- What is the difference between “Hot Carbonation” and “General Steam Cleaning”?
A lot of carpet steam cleaners use a high pressure machine which “blasts” water into your carpet and underlay. This can cause over wetting of carpet and longer drying times. The problem with this type of cleaning is that when your carpet is wet for a long period of time this can cause shrinking and stretching, and promote the breeding of bacterial mould within the backing of your carpet and underlay. This can be a serious health hazard for the occupants of the premises.
ChemDry Metro uses a patented carbonation process which promotes the “lifting” of soil which does not need excessive amounts of water, and does not damage or create a health issue within your carpet.
- How often should I have my carpets cleaned?
At least every 6-12 months – it has actually been proven that carpets that are periodically cleaned and protected have a longer life span and durability than carpets that are cleaned less frequently. Allergy sufferers and properties with pets may need more regular cleaning depending on individual circumstances. Carpet is also healthier for allergy sufferers than floorboards if maintained regularly, because carpet acts as a filter trap for dirt and dust instead of it circulating through the air.
- How soon can I walk on the carpet after it is cleaned?
Carpets cleaned by Chem Dry Metro can be walked on within 1 hour of completed cleaning; however, if possible, it is always best to wait until they are completely dry. You can expect them to be dry in around 1-2 hours after our technician leaves your premises. If necessary we can even provide disposable booties free of charge so you can walk on the carpet immediately.
- Is it safe for children, babies and pets?
Yes. ChemDry is without a doubt the most effective, healthy, safe and non-toxic carpet cleaning system available today. We even have a specialised pet urine removal treatment that is exclusive to ChemDry.
- I am very sensitive to smells. Does your cleaning product have a fragrance/scent?
No, our primary cleaning solution, ‘The Natural®’ does not have any scent. At ChemDry Metro we include deodorising at no extra charge as standard practice; however we do not have to use it. Please let our technicians know if you are sensitive to smells prior to commencement or when booking a job.
- Will all the stains come out?
This largely depends on how much time the stain has had to set in the carpet. If a stain is relatively new it can be much easier to lift than a stain that has had plenty of time to sit and set.
If the stain does not come out with the regular carpet clean, ChemDry Metro carries a wide range of specialized stain removal products in each van that can help remove some of the most difficult stains. In fact we are employed by many Real Estate agents to solely remove stains rather than replace the carpet in-between leases.
- Will the cleaning damage or destroy the stain protection on my carpet?
NO, ChemDry Metro does not use any harsh alkaline pre-sprays that can strip away the protective coating on stain resistant and stain treated carpets. Bear in mind however, that certain stain-removal jobs would require re-protection of carpet upon completion of the job.
- What are the benefits of carpet protection?
ChemDry Protectant provides that “window of opportunity” for you to immediately remove common household stains as they occur. Carpets that are unprotected can absorb spills so quickly that even your best efforts to remove them are fruitless. ChemDry Protectant creates an invisible barrier that helps keep stains (like cordial and wine) from becoming a permanent part of the carpet fiber. While no carpet is “stain-proof”, ChemDry Protectant gives your carpet a fighting chance. Here are 6 reasons why you should always get your carpet protected:
- Reduces permanent stains
- Helps save your traffic areas from becoming destroyed
- Makes spots easier to remove
- Makes your next professional cleaning more effective
- Helps your carpet to look better and last longer
- How often should I have my carpets protected?
At least every 18 to 24 months to maximize the long term durability and life of your carpet. With consistent periodical cleaning and protection you’re the life span of your carpet will be at least double that of any carpet that is less frequently maintained, and it would look better as well.
- What are those ugly black lines around the skirting boards and under doorways?
If you have cream or light colored carpet, you may have experienced these dark lines that appear on the carpet. This soiling is called filtration soiling because it comes from air passing through the carpet as it is attempting to get through the crack between the carpet and the skirting board or under a closed door. As the air passes through the edge of the carpet pile, this microscopic soiling is deposited there (hence the term filtration soiling). This takes place over a significant period of time and is not noticed until a buildup has occurred. This type of soiling is difficult to remove because the soil particles are so fine that they penetrate deep into the carpet pile, sometimes into the backing of the carpet. Can it be removed? Sometimes. With special products, time and effort, reasonable results can sometimes be achieved. To help prevent filtration soiling, vacuum and wipe the edges of the carpeting on a regular basis. Be careful around the tack-strip on the edge of the carpeting, as it could nick your fingers!
- Can you get the pet odour out of my carpet?
Pet odour is a very common problem. At ChemDry Metro we can help you deal with your pet challenges. From minor problems to major headaches, ChemDry Metro can help find the solution that works best for you. The problem with pet odour is that it can be much deeper than it first appears. Pet urine can easily soak through the backing of the carpet into the underlay. In more severe cases the urine can penetrate into the sub-floor beneath the underlay. This creates a problem that is multi-layered. The urine also provides for the growth of bacteria. This, in turn, contributes to a worsening of the odor problem and can contribute to permanent colour loss of the carpet fiber. To eliminate this problem the urine must be removed or neutralized from each of the layers affected.
Left untreated over a period of time pet odor can become absorbed into many of the porous materials in your home. At ChemDry Metro we offer a range of solutions to help you with your pet odour problems. Pet ownership adds to the challenge of maintaining a clean and healthy home. At ChemDry Metro we can help you meet those challenges.
- Why do some carpet cleaners have cheaper prices than ChemDry Metro?
There is a simple reason for this; A lot of carpet cleaners rely on a very unethical “bait-and-switch” system. These operators are interested in $$$ alone, and getting in and out as quickly as possible. They do not care if they leave your carpets soaking wet for days; they do not care if your carpets look worse than before they started, in fact they do not care if they never see you again. The “bait-and-switch” method purely relies on them getting a foot in the door by advertising a very cheap price and then forcing you to pay a much higher price than originally quoted upon completion. Nine times out of ten, their price ends up close to, if not higher than ours anyway.
ChemDry Metro is interested in building ongoing relationships with our customers and already has a very loyal customer database because we value our clients, respect their property and work together at protecting their assets. We always adhere to ethical practices ensuring you receive the best possible cleaning results and professional service available. We have been in business for many years and are fully backed by our parent company, which has been in operation in Australia for over 35 years. The price we quote over the phone is very nearly always the price that you will pay. Unless rooms are a lot larger than indicated or heavy staining or bodily excretions (urine, faeces, vomit, blood, etc) were not mentioned, the price quoted is the price you will pay.
Please note: like anything in life you get what you pay for; if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
- How long will the cleaning take to do?
This will depend on how many rooms we are cleaning, the size of the rooms, how soiled the carpet is and how clear you have been able to make the area. As a general guideline, 2 rooms could be cleaned in around 45 minutes to 1 hour, while 6 rooms may only take as little as 2 hours.
- Do I have to move out all the furniture?
We ask that you kindly move your fragile items and the smaller things that you can easily manage, such as side tables, plants, dining chairs. Items such as lounge suites and dining tables we can move as we go. Large items that are rarely moved, such as heavy wooden beds, large heavy bookcases, pianos or TV entertainment units are best left in position and we’ll clean around them.
- What else do I have to do to be prepared for your visit?
You will need to make sure that the electricity is on at the property, and if possible, provide us with access to a hot water supply.
- You do not need to pre-vacuum as we will vacuum with an industrial strength vacuum cleaner prior to commencing your clean. As a general rule of thumb, it is a good idea for you to vacuum at least once a week to take care of your carpets in between cleans.
- If you have any pets please ensure they are restrained while our technician is on site. Most pets, no matter how good-natured, may be distressed by a stranger entering their home.
- Finally, we will require payment on the day and can accept cash, cheque, bank transfer or most major credit cards.
Upholstery
- Do the same drying times apply to upholstery cleaning?
Yes, ChemDry Metro uses advanced upholstery cleaning equipment which lifts twice the amount of soils using a third of the amount of water most other systems use, promoting very fast fabric drying times. Our famous “The Natural® ” carbonation solution lifts and suspends all of the soiling from your fabric for extraction without over-wetting and damaging the fabric. In fact our upholstery cleaning method is safe to use on even the gentlest of fabrics. In most cases upholstery is dry in 2-3 hours.
- Will it take off any of the protection and stain resistance on my lounge?
All the upholstery solutions used by ChemDry Metro are non-alkaline based. They actually complement the cleaning process on protected lounges during cleaning, as they work in conjunction with the protection already on the fabric, to clean even more effectively rather than using harsh pre-sprays that not just clean the fabric but strip away the protection at the same time.
- What are the benefits of upholstery protection?
Fabrics require routine protection from stains and spills. Over time, the stain guard on fabrics breaks down, allowing new spills to penetrate beyond the protection layer and into the fabrics where they can stain. A routine application of ChemDry Protectant will help your fabrics stay cleaner longer. Protect your investment with ChemDry … the industry’s best value.
- How often should I protect my upholstery?
At least every 1 to 2 years, depending on the wear factor and type of fabric. Other factors that influence protection requirements include usage, children, pets, exposure to dust, spills or sunlight. For example, if the upholstery is in commercial premises and is more susceptible to heavy wear, this would require more frequent protection than an upholstery piece in a formal lounge room that is used sparingly.
